Race to replace David Hinchcliffe narrows down

As some regular readers might have gathered my wife is currently a front runner to be selected as the Labour candidate in Wakefield to replace the very highly-regarded David Hinchcliffe. I think Karen is probably the first to use a blog for an internal Labour Party selection contest, and judging from the volume of traffic it is certainly creating some interest amongst local party members.

Today's Wakefield Express has a story about the contenders as did last night's Yorkshire Evening Post (although that story isn't online).

And finally... an all postal ballot

After weeks of dithering by Tory and Liberal Lords we now finally have the go-ahead for an all postal ballot in Yorkshire and the Humber (as well as the North West and North East). This is good news and will make it a lot easier for people to vote.

The harsh reality of a Lib Dem council

For those who might be falling for the propaganda currently being peddled by the Lib Dems in Leeds here is a stark warning about the brutal realities of a Lib Dem council.

Great North Vote

I've started a new
weblog called the Great North Vote. There is a team of contributors and the idea
is to discuss and promote elected regional assemblies in the north of
England.

Back to the knocker

After a brief Easter break we are now back into campaigning for the June elections. Spent a couple of hours this morning out in the glorious sunshine helping some colleagues from another part of Leeds to do some door knocking to meet voters.

IDeA Knowledge interview on weblogs for councillors

Today's IDeA knowledge has an interview with me about how councillors should be using blogs. You need to register in order to read the article:

Weblogs for councillors

Many constituents who do not have the time to attend public meetings are using the internet to participate in local democracy. Councillor Stuart Bruce, from Leeds City Council, explains why a weblog is an effective means of connecting with residents.

How the mighty have fallen

It's hard to conceal my feeling of glee that the once mighty Tories are now not only lacking policies but the party of corporate greed is now so desparately short of ideas that it has to appeal to the public for ideas for its advertising. This is despite its so called crack creative team being headed by advertising guru Maurice Saatchi. The old guy must have lost a few grey cells.

I'm tempted to appeal for some ideas for an alternative campaign.

What about TrouseredbytheTories about the lucrative consultancy deals that Tory MPs have with big business, instead of representing the needs of their constituents? Or how about Howard's Highlights about some of the many skeleton in their leader's cupboard?
